The Specialty of Orofacial Pain
Orofacial Pain is the newest recognized specialty of dentistry focusing on the diagnosis, management and treatment of pain disorders of the head, face and neck.
The American Board of Orofacial Pain (ABOP) is the governing board for certifying eligible Orofacial Pain Specialists. To become a Board Certified Diplomate of the ABOP, the specialist dentist must first pass an intensive written exam, followed by an oral exam comprised of multiple complex patient cases.
Dr. Wang is currently the first and only dentist in the State of Illinois with Board Certification in the specialty of Orofacial Pain and additional Board Certification with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
By Fall 2026, Dr. Wang will be one of the very first Board Certified Orofacial Pain specialists in the United States to have completed Fellowship training with the prestigious Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. Graduates of this Fellowship are healthcare professionals working together to re-shape the future of healthcare in the United States. Integrative medicine offers a personalized whole health body-mind approach that blends the best of both conventional and complementary medical therapies. This approach has been shown to be effective for pain management.
