Whether you were referred by a dentist or physician, or found us on your own, and whether your symptom is a recent development or one that other dental and medical providers have struggled to identify or resolve, every new patient starts the same way: a direct conversation with the doctor about your specific case to determine if we are a good fit for you.
Who You Will Be Speaking With
You will be scheduled for a one-on-one phone conversation with Dr. Wang, a Board-Certified Orofacial Pain specialist with additional Fellowship training in Integrative Medicine, currently the only provider in Illinois holding Diplomate status with both the American Board of Orofacial Pain (ABOP) and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM). She focuses on diagnosing and managing pain and other strange sensations of the head, face, and neck, whether your symptom is a recent development or one that other dental and medical providers have struggled to identify or resolve.
Her top priority is an accurate diagnosis, since this is what prevents unnecessary treatment. Guessing at a cause or treating symptoms without knowing the underlying issue often leads to procedures, medications, or interventions that don't address the real problem. For that reason, we do not discuss treatment over the phone or by email. Treatment depends on a diagnosis, and a diagnosis requires a proper evaluation.
Why a Paid Discovery Call?
This is a 15 minute one-on-one conversation with the doctor, not a screening call with staff, intended to give you and Dr. Wang dedicated time to review your concerns, the evaluation process and fees and to make sure that scheduling an initial evaluation is an appropriate next step for you. This call is not a diagnostic or treatment session. No clinical diagnosis, treatment plan, or medical advice specific to your condition will be provided.
There is a non-refundable fee of $100 for the Discovery Call, due at booking, and is credited toward your evaluation fee if you proceed with scheduling an Initial Evaluation.
What the Discovery Call Includes:

A clear next step - whether that's scheduling a full evaluation or, if appropriate, a referral elsewhere
A Note About Treatment
Treatment is not discussed or recommended on this call. Consistent with Dr. Wang's diagnosis-first approach, any specific treatment plan comes only after a full evaluation, including history, exam and imaging, not before. The discovery call is determine whether an evaluation makes sense, not what that evaluation will find.
What Happens After the Discovery Call?
Dr. Wang will let you know if it's appropriate to proceed with scheduling your Initial Evaluation. She will also review the Initial Evaluation fees, the process and schedule your evaluation appointment. If an evaluation is not the right fit, you will leave the call knowing that too, along with a referral elsewhere if appropriate. Either way, you will not be left wondering what comes next.
Cost

Fee-for-service. We are a fee-for-service practice. Insurance is not accepted. This decision was made to allow Dr. Wang to dedicate the appropriate amount of time to providing individualized care for her patients. Payment is due at the time of service. A superbill is available upon request for self-submission to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
A note on insurance codes: Billing codes are not provided prior to your visit. Reimbursement depends on your specific insurance plan, not the billing code.
